Pearl, Mississippi is located 3 miles SE of Jackson, Mississippi and 160 miles N of New Orleans, Louisiana. It is in Rankin county and part of the Jackson metro area. The population of Pearl is 21,961.
Pearl History
During the 1860s, a community was established close to Pearl River. It was initially a rural farming community, and industries were not set up in this region until the mid-1900s. Subsequently, efforts were made to control floods, the Jackson-Evers International Airport was constructed and the area experienced considerable urban expansion. The city of Pearl was incorporated in June of 1973.

Local museums and historical sites include Eudora Welty House, Old State Capitol, the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science and the Mississippi Museum of Art. The Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum showcases exhibits on the agricultural, aviation and ethnic heritage of the region. Lefleur's Bluff State Park, occupying over 300 acres of land, provides recreational opportunities like fishing, picnicking and camping. The park also has nature trails, tennis courts and a golf course. The Pearl Municipal Golf Course is nearby, and the Patton Plaza Shopping Center is a popular local shopping malls. The community also celebrates Pearl Day on June 29 of every year.
