Winter Park, Florida, in Orange county, is 4 miles NE of Orlando, Florida (center to center) and 81 miles NE of Tampa, Florida. The city is conveniently located inside the Orlando metropolitan area. There are an estimated 24,090 people in Winter Park.
Winter Park History
The earliest settlers of Winter Park were Europeans; they started coming in after David Mizell Jr. bought eight acres of land in the area. A small settlement called Lake View developed around his land. In 1870, the area got its first post office, and its name was changed to Osceola. It began to develop well after 1880, when the railway track that connected Sanford and Orlando was laid nearby. Some businessmen got together and started the Winter Park Company in 1885. They bought the town of Osceola and developed it as a resort for wealthy people.
