Founded in 1821, Tallahassee is the capital of Florida, and the county seat of Leon County. Tallahassee has a population of nearly 157,000 people, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates. The Tallahassee metropolitan area is home to over a quarter of a million people. Tallahassee is located in inland northern Florida near the Apalachicola National Forest and close to the Georgia border.

Tallahassee is a past winner of the National Civic League's "All-America City Award", which it won in 1999.

The weather in Tallahassee is characterized by hot summers and cool winters. Summer temperatures often top 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The average daily summer temperature is 92 degrees Fahrenheit. January is the coldest month of the year with an average daily temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Tallahassee does occasional receive snow, and is the holder of the coldest temperature recorded in Florida, -2 degrees Fahrenheit.
