South Daytona, Florida, in Volusia county, is 3 miles S of Daytona Beach, Florida (center to center) and 89 miles SE of Jacksonville, Florida. The city is located in the Daytona Beach metropolitan area. South Daytona has a population of 13,177.

South Daytona History

The City of South Daytona was originally known as Blake. The residents were mostly involved in vegetable gardening and orange culture. The town had its first post office in 1878. In 1926, the City of Daytona Beach was formed after consolidating Daytona Beach and Seabreeze. Daytona Beach then attached Blake, but the inhabitants of Blake did not agree to the new taxes and appraisals, and filed a case to break away from Daytona. They succeeded, and in 1938 the town of Blake was incorporated as South Daytona. It developed well and was incorporated as a city in 1951.
