Introduction to Pembroke Pines, Florida

Incorporated in 1960, Pembroke Pines is a city located in southeast Broward County on Florida's southern Atlantic Coast. Pembroke Pines is twenty minutes south of Fort Lauderdale, and twenty five minutes north of Miami. Pembroke Pines took its name from its location along Pembroke Road. Pembroke Pines is the second largest city in Broward County and the ninth largest city in Florida.

Pembroke Pines residents have easy access to Port Everglades, the second busiest cruise port in the world, the Port of Miami, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, and the Miami International Airport. Major highways in and around Pembroke Pines include: US 27 which gives access to the center of the state and Lake Okeechobee areas, the Florida Turnpike, and I-75.

Pembroke Pines won the National Civic League's coveted "All-America City Award" in 2004 and was a finalist community in 2003. Pembroke Pines also received an "outstanding achievement award" in the "2005 City Livability Awards" Program, sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Many of Pembroke Pines schools have received the "Five Star School Award" from the Florida Department of Education as schools that have shown evidence of exemplary community involvement.

Pembroke Pines Arts and Culture

Pembroke Pines provides easy access to all of the leisure time attractions of nearby Miami as well as the entire South Florida metropolitan area. Some attractions of note in and around Pembroke Pines include:

  • Basketball- The Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
  • Football - The Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL).
  • Hockey - The Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League (NHL).
  • Soccer - Miami FC of the United Soccer League's (USL) USL First Division.

For college football fans, nearby Miami is the annual home to college football's Orange Bowl every January.
