Niceville History

The history of Niceville traces back up to 10,000 years ago when the Native Americans inhabited this region. It was a small fishing village called Boggy located along the shores of the Boggy Bayou bay. This village was the starting point of the city of Niceville. In 1842 cattleman Jessie Rogers from Louisiana settled in this area. However, permanent settlement began only after the Civil War. Though the city got its name Niceville on November 5, 1910, it was renamed as Valparaiso on May 24, 1919. However, the name was once again changed back to Niceville on November 1, 1925, as another community called New Valparaiso was developing near the town.
