Milton, Florida, in Santa Rosa county, is 18 miles NE of Pensacola, Florida (center to center) and 187 miles E of New Orleans, Louisiana. The city benefits from easy access to nearby cities and towns with which it shares the Pensacola metropolitan area. Milton has a population of approximately 7,045.

Milton History

The city of Milton, formerly known as Scratch Ankle, due to its propensity to grow briars, was also known as Milltown, because it had the greatest mill in the area. The community, officially incorporated in 1844, was also called "Scottman’s Anchorage" because of the lumber barges that used to traverse the Blackwater River. The community is the county seat of Santa Rosa County, which was established in 1842 and named after Santa Rosa Island, Florida.

Things To Do In Milton

The city has numerous parks such as the Blackwater River State Park, the Henderson Beach State Park, the Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park, and the Perdido Key State Park, all of which offer ample recreational opportunities. Gateway Shopping Center is a popular shopping destination and there are also several golf courses such as the Tanglewood Golf and Country Club, the Champion Golf Club and the Marcus Pointe Golf Club. One may plan a day-trip to the West Florida Railroad Museum, the Arcadia Sawmill and the Arcadia Cotton Mill as well as the Robert Lee Norton House. Santa Rosa County Fair is an annual event hosted by the city of Milton during April.
