Key Biscayne, Florida, in Miami Dade county, is 5 miles S of Miami, Florida. The village is in the Miami area. There are 10,507 residents in Key Biscayne.

Key Biscayne History

The area presently known as Key Biscayne was officially discovered by Juan Ponce de Leon in 1513. He named it Santa Marta and claimed it for his Spanish King. In 1825, the U.S. Government bought a small part of the property from an American woman in the area, and built the Cape Florida Lighthouse on it. The woman and her husband then went on to develop the town of Key Biscayne. They began by offering 264 lots for $500 each.

Overall, Key Biscayne offers excellent opportunities for picnicking, biking, water sports and wind surfing.
