Jacksonville Beach, Florida, in Duval county, is 15 miles E of Jacksonville, Florida. The city benefits from easy access to the nearby cities and towns with which it shares the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Jacksonville Beach contains a population of approximately 20,990.

Jacksonville Beach History

Captain Jean Ribault, a Frenchman, claimed the First Coast area in 1562, but the area near Jacksonville Beach was first settled by the Spanish. In 1831, some fishermen and river pilots settled in this area, which was known as Hazard at that time. It was also established as a port around the same time. Jackson Beach got its first post office in 1884; at that time it was named Ruby. The name was changed to Pablo Beach in 1886. It was incorporated in 1907 and renamed Jacksonville Beach in 1925.

Jacksonville Beach has an awesome shoreline with a dazzling, sandy white beach. The most popular activities revolve around the beach and include swimming, boating, fishing, cycling, and beach volleyball, among others. There is an 18 hole golf course to keep golf enthusiasts occupied. Entertaining events are regularly organized at the Sea Walk Pavilion. Overall, Jacksonville Beach is an excellent vacation spot with the added advantage of having a number of major tourist spots in the neighborhood.
