Lawrence Carter Swain founded Greenacres. The area was incorporated in 1926. It has been accorded the status of “Tree City USA” for 15 years running by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The city has been regularly hit by hurricanes, which has led its residents to be well prepared for any such emergencies.
