Atlantic Beach, Florida, in Duval county, is 15 miles E of Jacksonville, Florida. The city is considered part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Atlantic Beach has a population of 13,368.
Atlantic Beach History
Atlantic Beach was a small and quiet seaside community till a railway station was built at the site. It was followed by the construction of the Continental Hotel. This was enough to spread the good word around, and Atlantic Beach became hot property. It got incorporated in 1926 with Harcourt Bull Sr. assuming duties as the first mayor. In 1987, the city acquired the Seminole Beach area and in 1996 it extended its boundaries to the Intracoastal Waterway.

The miles of white beaches along with a great climate throughout the year make Atlantic Beach an ideal vacation destination. Popular activities include swimming, fishing, boating, golfing and other sports. Around 65 acres of the city are dedicated to parks which are neatly maintained and offer facilities for a varied range of activities. The nature park, Dutton Island Preserve, has a fishing pier, hiking trails, and even a floating dock for canoes and kayaks.
